Amnesty International launched its Guantanamo Cell tour as a way of bringing attention to the violation of human rights for detainees (and essentially prisoners) who spend up to 23 hours locked in a cell in complete isolation. The tour gives people an opportunity to experience the harsh reality that these prisoners face on a daily basis. A lot of the men who are locked up in Guantanamo Bay have never been charged with a crime nor have they been given access to legal counsel. The United States must either charge them with a crime and give them access to legal counsel or set them free.
The tour will be coming to Santa Monica, CA September 18-20 and St. Louis, MO October 24-26. For information on seeing the tour and recording a message to President Bush urging him to shut down Guantanamo, please visit this website.
