The World Wide Fund for Nature recently posted an article regarding renewable energy in Australia. Waves from the surrounding ocean can provide 35% of the energy needs, while geothermal energy would provide cleaner energy. Not only is there a positive environmental impact with these two technologies, there is also an economic impact. The wave energy industry would create 3,210 jobs by 2020 with the figure growing to 14,380 jobs by the year 2050. The news is just as good for labor creation in the geothermal energy industry with a projection of 17,000 jobs by 2050.
These rough economic times are providing us with a chance to think outside the box. Instead of bailing out struggling corporations – the same ones that got us into this mess in the first place – maybe we should look at bailing out the people who really need help. Green jobs can become vital not only to economic recovery but also to the preservation of a very important resource; the earth.
