How do you silence pro-democratic supporters? If you are the military government of Myanmar, you make a mockery of the legal system by holding farcical trials and sentencing those who dare oppose your views to house arrest. By silencing Aung San Suu Kyi, a prisoner of conscious, the Burmese government ensures that the leader of the National League for Democracy will not be represented in next year’s elections. It is shameful that the current government is too afraid to allow those who want change to have a voice in the political process that it must resort to these ridiculous actions. Ms. Suu Kyi’s sentence should be overturned and she should be freed immediately.
