It’s Comcastic

It looks like Comcast and GE have about 12 to 18 months to close Comcast’s acquisition of NBC Universal. A blog entry from the Consumerist gives reasons why this vertical integration may be bad news for the consumer.

If it happens, more mergers will take place, which will most likely result in an oligopoly for media resulting in — you guessed it — higher cable rates. Well, at least we will still be able to continue streaming TV shows on the internet for free. . . oh wait.
