Concert goers be damned! The Department of Justice wants horizontal integration and vertical integration to take their natural courses by allowing the merger between Ticketmaster and Live Nation.
Christine Varney, head of the DoJ’s Antritrust Division, is optimistic that “ticket prices decline as a result of the settlement.”
Economies of scale may result into lower ticket prices, but I shall remain in pessimistic mode. After all, Ticketmaster still remains a monopoly in the ticket distribution business.
Also, what about the processing fees? The last time I bought a ticket through Ticketbastards, I mean Ticketmaster, I was charged nearly 50% of the ticket price for the processing fee. No wonder I don’t venture out to concerts anymore!
