Is it correct to label the recent surfacing of the sexual abuse scandal that took place over many years in the Catholic Church as merely ‘gossip?’ One cardinal seems to think so.
I certainly don’t claim to be an expert in theology, but the Church’s attempt to draw attention away from the Pope’s knowledge and the Church’s inaction of it rather than addressing the real issue is a rejection and denigration of Jesus’s teachings, at least to me.
I haven’t read the entire Bible nor all of the Gospels, but I am quite certain there is nothing in either work encouraging priests, bishops, cardinals, etc. to take advantage of young men. If I recall correctly, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah discourages it.
On this Easter Sunday, the Catholic Church can truly repent and cleanse itself by stopping these abuses rather than covering them up or ignoring them.
