Are You Gellin’?

Is it possible that King Tut was gellin’ over 600 years before Dr. Scholl released his gel insoles? Probably not, but researchers have uncovered evidence the young pharaoh may have worn special orthopedic sandals.

According to Andre Veldmeijer, the shoes, which “were so important that they were even imitated in gold,” never touched the ground because they were a “status symbol” worn by “the king and royalty.”

It sounds like the Egyptians found a way to conspicuously consume something with both instrumental and ceremonial value.
