Cà Phê Sữa Đá

One of my addictions vices is cà phê sữa đá, which is essentially Vietnamese iced coffee that contains sweetened condensed milk. It’s probably not the healthiest drink, but it’s something that I enjoy drinking on a regular basis mostly because I like the taste and want the caffeine kick.

Quite often, I buy cà phê sữa đá from a restaurant near my place before going on a morning walk around the neighborhood or at the nearby lake. Recently, there was a change in ownership at the restaurant. The new owners started making the coffee less sweet. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a bit of a sweet tooth. Because the coffee was less sweet, I didn’t like how it tasted, so I stopped buying coffee from the restaurant, which is a shame because I wanted to continue supporting a local mom and pop restaurant.

For now, I’m buying iced coffee from a gigantic coffee company that has cafes almost everywhere (some locations even have a drive thru). The reasons I buy coffee from this place are because it’s convenient, and there is a drink that I like there. However, if I had my way, the new owners at the Vietnamese restaurant would still be making the cà phê sữa đá like the prior owners did, and I would still be buying drinks from them.

  1. Maybe you can request for it to be sweeter or even suggest they keep the coffee as sweet as the prior owner had made it.

    1. That’s a good suggestion, but I didn’t mention some other factors in the blog because I didn’t want to turn it into a long rant. The new owners started charging me taxes on the coffee, plus I can’t pay with a CC unless the total is above $5; both negatives in my opinion.
